Important Volleyball Conditioning Drills

Conditioning drills are very important, because a team's stage of conditioning can mean the difference between winning and losing a game. Volleyball has more to it than just serves, passes, and spikes it's a very physical and powerful game that requires more conditioning.

Working on lateral movements of the feet is one thing that should be practiced. Start by having the players hold their hands together behind their backs with their feet spread about shoulder breadth apart. Have them jump from right foot to left.

When they land on the right foot, be sure to have them move the left foot out past the right this makes the drill even harder on the legs. Have them do this for about 5-10 minutes and then have them stop. Too much will cause them strain on the muscles.

Put a line, on the wall about the height of the net. Have the players jump up and down at a fast pace, with their arms raised like they are trying to block at the top of the net. Do this for about 5 minutes, keeping a fast pace. Then slow them down, by having them do jumps from a squatting pose with their backsides at the same height as their knees when they attempt the next jump. This helps them to add height to their blocking movements.

There are several more conditioning drills that you can have the team do. They should also work on cardio for endurance, and some weight training for the forearms and legs to help with the power of their hits. Speed can be worked on by doing speed drills.

To find more drills to help your team improve and become a force to be reckoned with, you should search the internet, or purchase some books to help you find just what you need to meet your team's needs.
