When you assemble your team, you are excited to teach them all about volleyball. Depending on the age of the team, it can be difficult to get your point across to young players. You have to start with the very basic knowledge items first.

It is too early to start teaching them the essential skills like passing, spiking, and servicing. The reason for this is simple; these procedures and skills are not understood yet, this is the first experience for many beginners. They need to practice just holding and passing the ball first.

If your team is made up of young players you might start off by shortening the court until they get the hang of what they are doing. Give good clear instructions and demonstrations. This makes the kids feel more confident that they understand what you are teaching. Encourage and ask questions so that you know that they are getting what you are saying.

Teaching one of the most fundamental things in volleyball like the spike technique can be very frustrating to get the hang of. The ball rarely goes where they want it to, because they do not yet know the skills to control the ball.

Use a tennis ball and have the kids toss the ball so that it bounces once on the ground, hits the wall and comes back to them. After practicing this a few times, they will start to get a sense for the spiking action. The tennis ball exercise will let them see how alike the throwing motion is to the arm swing and wrist snap in a volleyball spike.

Then when you begin teaching them the spike they will understand the motion better, and it should come to them a bit easier. Use the tennis ball and have them toss it over the net using their hand and wrist in the snapping motion. Have them jump in place tossing the ball over the net. Once they get used to this try it with the volleyball.

There are many techniques and tips to teaching beginners. You can find them on the internet, in books, and yes even in an interactive system that you can purchase. Start simple and work your way up.

When doing practice drills, you have to keep it interesting by changing it up each time, and working on different skills. Have the team split in two groups of two and serve to each other over the net and the other one return the serve. Have them change it up after so many repetitions.

Incorporate some exercises in that will help build their skills like dancing to work on foot work. It is easy to get them involved with music and paying attention to foot moves. Explain how they need to find their own rhythm when playing volleyball.

Body conditioning is an important part of volleyball. So some days should be devoted to this. Squats, lateral steps, and jumping can be worked on here. Music can be used to make this more fun for the team. Strength training is also important for the arms and legs for power slams, and high jumps.

There are so many drills and exercises that you can do to keep it interesting and still work on the core training needs. Look at your teams needs what they are lacking in their skills and target those skill areas. Practices should include two to three skills to focus on. Also they should split up into two teams and play against each other. This helps them get used to the rotation, and what they should be doing.

They need to learn communication skills, so that they can read the face and body signals of their team mates. Have teams of four take the court, and have each team lay on the ground. You throw the ball and they have to get up and hit it over the net before it hits the ground. This builds speed, competitive spirit, and accuracy.

You can find many drills on the internet, or in books. The important thing is to make sure your team can play to win. Keeping them interested and involved will get you there.

When teaching beginners how to play volleyball, the best place to start is with the basics. Get to know the ball, learn how to hold it. Learn how to stand correctly, and keep your eye on the ball. Learning to spike is something they all want to learn. It is not as easy as it looks; they soon find out. They must have good hand eye coordination. That can be worked on with practice drills.

One player can toss the ball to the other player who will pass it. They should do this for a number of times and then change rolls. Players can focus on passing others using the correct passing method. Once they are comfortable with this they can start peppering the ball by passing it off to each other.

Another drill that is good is to let each player have a ball and pick a spot on a wall to hit. Throw the ball and try to hit the spot. They can practice using correct arm swing method. These types of drills really work well for building hand eye coordination. It also will help them to build their confidence with each skill that they master.

Beginners can do many of these exercises alone which will let them be able to practice even at home. Teach the players the correct blocking form. Then have them practice by doing block jumps in front of a wall. Have them begin by standing in front of a wall in a blocking pose. Then have them jump up and touch the wall as high as they can using good blocking position. Then when they come back down, they should land in blocking position.

Next have them practice setting drills in groups of two. Have them set back and forth to each other over the net. This will teach them to maintain the ball in play as long as they can. The object is to keep the ball off the ground. Then they can also practice serving to each other, taking turns as they go. These are just a few to get you started.

Volleyball drills are used to improve a variety of routine factors controlling the ball, positioning, and improving approach jumps or blocks. Coaches and players both have to understand the significance of training with an intention. The intention is to improve skills so the team can win games.

The reason for drills is also to get rid of any problems the team is having by working on them, and improving volleyball skills that are lacking. Each drill should have a focus and a goal, so the team knows what they are reaching for with the drill, and the coach can better tell when that goal is reached.

The most used drills are targeted at volleyball skills and movement these are the usual types of drills that most coaches have their team work on. Skill and movement drills are intended to help players improve their volleyball skills by practicing until the skill shows improvement. This might be a team effort or a one on one with a specific player.

Use repetitive drills to build the skill into a habit. It is a good idea to start to teach proper skills early, when you first start teaching the team and before you play the game, because it is difficult to change already learned bad habits.

Drills should be progressive according to the team's skill level, and also taking individuals into consideration. Concentrate on the skills of each team member to give them things that they can work on to improve a specific skill, explain that this helps the team overall.

Once the team develops their skills as individuals then you can move on to more team specific drills like strategy and tactics. Make sure that the team understands that they are one when they are in a game. Encourage them by praising their good skills, and keeping a positive attitude. If you are negative, your team will feel it and it can affect their playing. Make it fun, but keep it serious.

Conditioning drills are very important, because a team's stage of conditioning can mean the difference between winning and losing a game. Volleyball has more to it than just serves, passes, and spikes it's a very physical and powerful game that requires more conditioning.

Working on lateral movements of the feet is one thing that should be practiced. Start by having the players hold their hands together behind their backs with their feet spread about shoulder breadth apart. Have them jump from right foot to left.

When they land on the right foot, be sure to have them move the left foot out past the right this makes the drill even harder on the legs. Have them do this for about 5-10 minutes and then have them stop. Too much will cause them strain on the muscles.

Put a line, on the wall about the height of the net. Have the players jump up and down at a fast pace, with their arms raised like they are trying to block at the top of the net. Do this for about 5 minutes, keeping a fast pace. Then slow them down, by having them do jumps from a squatting pose with their backsides at the same height as their knees when they attempt the next jump. This helps them to add height to their blocking movements.

There are several more conditioning drills that you can have the team do. They should also work on cardio for endurance, and some weight training for the forearms and legs to help with the power of their hits. Speed can be worked on by doing speed drills.

To find more drills to help your team improve and become a force to be reckoned with, you should search the internet, or purchase some books to help you find just what you need to meet your team's needs.

Volleyball is supposed to be fun, and winning makes it more fun. A player needs to know how to start a play so if they are needed they can step right in to help the team. They want to be able to be counted on by the other team mates.

Beginner drills need to focus on the basics, terms, rules, and the moves needed to play the game. They need to learn how to spike, pass, set, and serve. These are the things that you must teach them before they can even begin to learn foot movements and power hitting.

Start off with simple tossing of the ball so that they can become familiar with the size and weight of it. Then teach them how to pass with their fingertips. Show them how to spike and set. Then put them in groups of two or three and let them practice these moves. It will take some time for them to get good at it.

You need to keep it fun and change up the drill routines to keep it interesting. Have each team member work on their weaknesses. Split the team into two once they know the basics and see how well they have learned the techniques you have taught them. Then you can see where the weaknesses lie.

The importance of working together as a unit should be stressed. They cannot do it alone they must work together if they are going o win a game. Encourage them to get together when not at practice or school, and do drills that they can work on in pairs. Also show them things that they can do on their own to improve their skills.

You have to put together a confident team. Be encouraging and optimistic. Praise them on their strengths, and help them to overcome their weaknesses.

Teaching beginners of any age means, starting with the fundamentals. Eye hand coordination, proper stance, passing, blocking, and spiking are all skills that should be worked on in drills. They need to learn the objective of the game, and the rules. They need to learn all of the terms and what they mean. Teach your team the ways to score points These things should be the core of beginner training.

Using repetition will help to build good skills and techniques in your team, and is a great way to start training you're team. Each drill should be repeated until it is learned, and then practiced often. Each player has their own individual learning curve, pay attention to this and give extra help to those that need it. You cannot work on skills as a team until you have the skills as individuals.

You should encourage good nutrition and the importance of exercise to your team. Explain how keeping in good physical shape, and how eating the right foods can boost their energy and make them stronger as players. This is often left out of training, but it should not be. Good nutrition is important to any athlete.

To bump teach your team to make sure their arms are underneath the ball. Have them shrug their shoulders when hitting the ball. Teach them the proper way to hit the ball. They don't hit it with the fist but with 'platform', or inside or wrists and arm, also keep hands in a fist.

The team needs to learn the proper technique for setting. Setting is when you are using your fingertips only to hit the ball, and you hit the ball straight up in the air, because if the ball is hit forward it can be counted against you as a carry.

Keep your instructions simple and age appropriate. Be encouraging and focus on each player's needs. Make learning fun for the younger learners, because they often get discouraged. These tips should help you to train a winning team.

Volleyball Drills for Beginners: Where to Begin

Volleyball Drills for Beginners: Where to Begin

The importance of drills is to help build team spirit and make the team play better as a unit. Building communication skills and improving on required skills. The same old drills can get stale, so give your team a few fun drills to break things up a bit.

Teaching the fundamentals of volleyball should be taught in a way that increases as the team's skills do. You can do this with incorporating fun drills along with the regular drills. The most basic volleyball techniques can be quite difficult, and it takes numerous practices to become skilled at them correctly. To make the process easier, it is suggested that you keep the whole thing very simple, and break the drills down so they are easy enough for the players to learn each facet of them.

There are books, and websites, and even DVDs that you can get to show you all of the most important drills that your team needs to learn. The most important thing to remember is to let them learn the basics of each skill before trying to improve their skills. They have to have the skills down first.

Volleyball Drills for Beginners

When you start to progress to the improving of skills, know what each team member's strengths and weaknesses are and then you can pair them up to do drills in a way that one who is good at one skill will work with another who may be lacking in that skill but is good in another. This way they learn to communicate and help each other.

You never want to pit one player against another so when you put the team mates together, make sure they are have some equal talents. The drills are not supposed to point out who is better and belittle the others. You want to teach team unity, and get them to want to help each other for the sake of the team.

Keeping it fun, keeps them interested. I will list a few fun drills that you can try with your team to help them with their basic skills, and others skills that are often not practices much. These will improve your team's performance.

Have your team jog on a specific spot on the floor. Have them do this until you say "Hit the Floor". When you yell out those words all of the team has to drop to the floor immediately. If you want to make it competitive, you can set a rule such as the last player to drop is out.

Split up your team into pairs and have them stand about 10-20 feet apart on each side of the net. Give each pair of players a ball. Start the drill with player one giving a hard down ball to player two.

Player two has to dig the volleyball up high, and then tomahawk it using above the head contact, then they should hit the ball with their left fist only, then just use their right fist, then set the ball up to themselves, then lastly hit a down ball over the net for the other team mate to replicate the sequence of hits.

Begin doing this drill at a slow pace then little by little increase the speed as the team becomes familiar with the array of the skills and the amount of power required to keep on hitting the ball to each other.

Another drill is to take two players and have one lay on top of the other. You hit the ball high into the court. At the sound of the hit on the ball, the players get up, and the player that was on the bottom runs to the ball to make a pass; the other player that was on top will move to get into position to set their team mate. After the pass, set, and hit the volleyball drill starts over with a new pair of players. This is great drill for learning fast response and player communication skills.
